His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Visit Us in September

New York, June 20 – His Holiness the Dalai Lama, leader of the Tibetan people and advocate of world peace, will visit five states in the United States from September 10 through September 27 as part of his efforts to promote the human values of universal responsibility, compassion and inter-religious understanding.

“The purposes of the visit are to give public talks at major universities, spiritual teachings in Arizona and New York City , and generally to send a message of peace to the world,” Nawang Rabgyal, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, said.

Starting the visit from Sun Valley , Idaho , His Holiness will deliver a healing message of compassion on the anniversary of 9/11 tragedy. He will also send a message of peace and reconciliation to the world.

The following day, on September 12, His Holiness will hold a special session with several thousand children of Idaho .

On September 15, His Holiness will depart for Tucson to give a three-day teaching on “A Guide to Boddhisatva’s Way of Life”, composed by Shantideva, an eighth century Indian Buddhist master.

While in Tucson , he will take part in an interfaith dialogue on “Contemplative Practices Which Create Peace”. In addition, he will give a public talk on “Creating Peace in a Violent World”.

From Austin , His Holiness will depart for Houston , where on September 21 he will inaugurate a symposium, entitled “Spiritualism and Science in the Modern world”.

The next day, he will give a public talk on “The Meaning of Compassion in Everyday Life”. In the afternoon, he will give another public talk on “Tolerance and Universal Responsibility in the Global Village”. The two events will be hosted by Rice University for the university community and the general public.

On September 23, His Holiness will arrive in New York City , and on the following day, he will give Avalokitesvara initiation and general Buddhist teaching to the Vietnamese community. www.avalokiteshvara2005.org

On September 25, he will receive an honorary doctorate degree from Rutgers , the State University of New Jersey, at which time he will give a public talk on “War, Peace and Reconciliation”.

On September 26, His Holiness will visit Columbia University to participate in an event, entitled “Tibetan Studies in the Modern Research University : Columbia as Pioneer”. On the same day, he will take part in a Peace Council meeting and an interfaith service at Riverside Church .

His Holiness will leave the United States on September 27, but will be back in November for two weeks, during which he will visit Palo Alto ( Stanford University ), San Francisco , and Washington , DC .
