Paris, May 17 – A vigil was held on May 17 in front of the Chinese Embassy in Paris for mark the 10th anniversary of the Panchen Lama’s kidnapping by the Chinese governement.

Several associations were represented, among which SFT France, France-Tibet and the Tibetan Community in France.

Tibetans and Tibet supporters lit candles and a member of SFT France read a text written by the Tashi Lunpo Monastery, reminding that the Panchen Lama should be freed, given a religious education, and return to the Tashi Lunpo Monastery. We all hope to receive news from the Panchen Lama as soon as possible.

Petitions asking for the Panchen Lama’s release were signed. We reminded the participants that 120,000 of these petitions for the Panchen Lama have already been signed and handed to the French President, Jacques Chirac.

The situation of Tibet and of the Panchen Lama was explained to the participants. There were signs explaining the situation and leaflets were distributed to inform as many people as possible about this intolerable situation.

Similar vigils were staged all over the world as part of the Global Vigil for Panchen Lama organized under the International Tibet Support Network (ITSN).
