On Saturday, May 28, 12 teams will battle for the trophy in the fourth annual AHM soccer tournament at Richview Reservoir Park, (northeast corner of Martingrove/Eglinton).
The teams competing include (Mainland) China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Japan, last year’s champion Korea and Tibet to name a few.
Last week the Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario (CTAO) assembled a group of volunteers to start the training and tryouts for Tibet team.
For the Tibetans the pool of player to pick from is much smaller than the other Asian countries, for example in the city of Toronto alone there are over 88,000 Chinese from mainland China, Sri Lanka 54,000, and over 100,000 Hong Kong Chinese. Though heavy underdogs, the players for the Tibetan team are confident that they can compete well against these more experienced teams who have players with club experience.
For the Tibetans players this is a rare honour and a great privilege to play for their country against teams representing other nations.
The last tryouts and for the Tibet team will be on Sat. May 21, at 10am-12pm at the Parkdale soccer field.
