SAN FRANCISCO, May 17 – A group of twenty Tibetans and supporters gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate to mark the tenth anniversary of the Panchel Lama’s abduction by the Chinese government. The protest started at 2 pm and ended at 5 pm. The protestors stood in the rain and shouted slogans at the Chinese Consulate, demanding the release of Tibet’s Panchen Lama, who has been under house arrest for the past ten years. A prayer was also recited. The demonstration concluded with the singing of Long Sho and the Tibetan national anthem.
Later that day, at 7pm, about fifty Tibetans and supporters gathered in front of the Berkeley BART station to hold a candle light vigil for the Panchen Lama’s release. Topden Tsering of RTYC, Tenpa Gyamyang, Tashi Tsering of Tibet Justice Center, addressed the crowd. The vigil included a modest concert by Tibetan Association of Northern California, featuring Gen Nyima Gyalpo.
