The International Tibet Independence Movement (ITIM) is coordinating another “March for Tibet’s Independence,” with the close assistance of the Tibetan Association of Boston and the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress-New York and New Jersey. This 240+ mile walk will be from Boston to the United Nations and China’s Embassy in New York City. It will start on July 30 and end on August 13. A core group of about ten individuals will walk the entire time with others joining along the way for various lengths of time.

Jigme Norbu (son of Taktser Rinpoche and nephew of His Holiness The Dalai Lama) will once again lead this walk. According to Norbu, “This is the fifth time I have been involved in a walk or bike ride for Tibet’s independence coordinated by ITIM. Each time, I have become even more convinced through my interactions with Tibetans and supporters that independence for Tibet is not only essential, but urgent. I have also developed a deeper commitment to work harder for independence and the release of The Panchen Lama. Like my father, I will not rest until our country is in our hands and the tyrants of Beijing are kicked out of Tibet.”

Why are we walking?

  1. For Tibet’s Independence
  2. For the Tibetans inside Tibet
  3. To advocate for the release of Gendhun Choekyi Nyima (The Panchen Lama), Tulku Tenzin Delek, and other political prisoners
  4. To educate people about the serious situation inside Tibet
  5. To stop the marginalization of the Tibetan population
  6. To stop the railroad and pipeline being built in Tibet by China
  7. To promote a Boycott of China’s Goods
  8. To advocate for democracy in China
  9. For Eastern Turkestan, Southern Mongolia, and Taiwan’s independence
  10. To dialogue with Chinese individuals about the history and current situation in Tibet

At the conclusion of this walk, hundreds of Tibetans and Tibet supporters are expected to demonstrate at the United Nations and China’s Embassy to protest China’s illegal and brutal occupation of Tibet!

When asked why he was once again coordinating and participating in a walk for Tibet’s independence, Tsewang Rigzin (ITIM Board Member) stated, “A nation is on the brink of extinction and a race is being completely wiped out of this planet by the communist Chinese regime that invaded Tibet in 1959. Now more than ever, we need to stand united and fight for Tibet’s INDEPENDENCE before it’s too late. Every Tibetan on this planet has the responsibility to fight for Tibet’s Independence and we shall.”
