“Probe into security lapse expected to be completed soon”

Bangalore – Chief Minister N Dharam Singh on Monday summoned top Police and Home Department officials to discuss the issue of security breach during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s visit here by a Tibetan youth.

The State Government on Sunday night ordered a high-level enquiry into the protest by the Tibetan youth during Wen’s visit to the Indian Institute of Science on Sunday. Singh had also spoken to DGP S N Borkar.

The Chief Minister again discussed the issue of security lapse with Home Secretary Brahma Dutt, Borkar and City Police Commissioner Mariswamy on Sunday.

Borkar told after the meeting with Singh that he had ordered a probe into the incident by Director General of Corps of Detectives, K R Srinivasan, who was expected to submit his report on Tuesday.

“We had an informal meeting. Government has viewed it (security lapse) with seriousness. CoD DG would probably give his report tomorrow and it would be placed before the Chief Minister for further action,”
Borkar said.

Tibetan activist Tenzin Tsundue had staged the dramatic protest for nearly 15 minutes from atop the main building of Indian Institute of Science when Wen was interacting with top scientists at the ground floor.

Meanwhile, Mariswamy admitted to security lapse and said action would be action if there was dereliction of duty. He said police had locked the tower on Saturday night itself and the Tibetan activist might have scaled up with the help of pipes.

Police sources said Tsundue, who has made Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh his home, is a writer and had contributed newspaper articles seeking liberation of Tibet. He had come to the city last week.

Police said Tsundue had staged a similar protest three years ago from atop a five star hotel at Mumbai where a high-level Chinese dignitary was staying.

Sources said objective of Tsundue’s dramatic protest here on Sunday was only to draw attention to the Tibetan cause and the youth had no other designs.
