Brussels, April 11 – The second three-day film festival cum thanka exhibition concluded on Sunday the 10th April 2005. It was organised by Les Amis du Tibet or the Belgian Friends of Tibet in Brussels, the political capital city of the European Union.
The festival was formally declared open by Mr. Migyur Dorjee from the Office of Tibet Brussels on Friday the 8th April. Since the opening day coincided with the late Pope John Paul II’s funeral, Mr. Dorjee paid a rich tribute to late spiritual leader and read out His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s condolence message. While thanking the organizers he emphasized the importance of their support towards the peaceful struggle of the Tibetan people and urged the non-members in the audience to join the group to strengthen the movement in Belgium and in the EU.
On the second day the guest speaker, Mrs Claude Levenson, from Switzerland, (orientalist and specialist on Tibet) talked about Tibet today which was well received by the audience. In addition to the films and exhibition all the relevant information on Tibet were made available to the public. A Tibetan tent was erected at the venue to depict a Tibetan nomadic life.
Mr. Marc Liegois, President and Ms. Anne-Catherine Cravatte, coordinator of the festival spoke on each day about the aim and objective of the festival. It was great success as a huge numbers of people witnessed the films on all three days. The following films were screened during these three days.
