March 10 Demonstration in Stockholm

Members & friends of Tibetan Community Sweden, Swedish Tibet Committee, Buddhist Centre Dromtvnpa & AKAT-Sweden/Christians against Torture, gathered in Stockholm City at 17:30 on the 10th March 2005 to demonstrate against 46 years of the Chinese occupation of Tibet.

After a short presentation of the significance of the protest demonstration, the chairman of the Tibetan Community, Mr Tashi Wangyal introduced Mr Kent Olsson, member of Swedish Parliament. Mr Olsson talked about “The Swedish Parliamentarian Group for Tibet” & the forthcoming visit to Tibet by some of the Swedish parliamentarians. Mr Olsson then read out the 10th March speech of the His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet.

After that Ingrid Marongiu, chairman of “AKAT-Sweden/Christians Against Torture” highlighted the importance of the demonstration all over the world to put international pressure on Chinese Authority to stop Death Penalty and Torture with special reference to death sentence of Tenzing Delek Rinpoche.

At 18:00 like every year, lead by the Swedish police the participants walked about 10km through the City with placards & banners demanding respect for human right in Tibet, as well wishing long life for the His Holiness the Dalai Lama and finally arrived at the Chinese Embassy area at 19:00.

The non-violent protest demonstration continued for about 30 more minutes at the Chinese Embassy, after which Mr Tashi Wangyal and Sofia Eriksson ( representing Swedish Tibet Committee) handed over a letter of protest to the Chinese Ambassador.
