Northampton, March 10 – The annual peaceful protest commenced this afternoon at 4:30 pm in Northampton, Massachusetts. This year marks the 46th anniversary of the nonviolent resistance by the Tibetans in Lhasa, Tibet in 1959. This event led to the massacre of nearly 87 thousand Tibetans in Tibet in the following days by the PLA.
Today we are yet again as annually showing our determination that we still desire freedom of religion, speech, etc that are denied in our homeland. It was indeed a chilly day as many Tibetans from Amherst, Greenfield, Northampton and other western Massachusetts towns gathered around at 4 pm. As the crowd of Protestor grew, the peaceful and silent march around the historic Northampton downtown began.
The demonstration concluded with Thupten and Tenzin Choden reading H.H. the Dalai Lama’s March 10 statement in English and Tibetan respectively.
Freedom in Tibet!!!!
