Three Nepalese who helped smuggle 30 kilograms (65 pounds) of heroin into Tibet were sentenced Tuesday to long prison terms, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

The Tibet High People’s Court sentenced Ravi Dahal to death with a reprieve _ which is usually commuted to life in prison _ Ishori Kumar Shrestha to life in prison and Rewat Kumar Dahal to 10 years, the agency said.

Ravi Dahal had appealed an earlier death sentence, and the high court reduced it Tuesday, saying the three convicts were merely go-betweens in a larger drug network, Xinhua said.

The group smuggled heroin into Tibet from Nepal in May 2003 and hid it in a rented warehouse, Xinhua said.

It said police raided the warehouse, seized the heroin and arrested Ishori Kumar Shrestha, who led them to the two others.
