Chandigarh, December 10 – Members of the Regional Tibet Youth Congress (RTYC) today observed the “World Human Rights Day” by organising a silent protest in the form of a candle-light vigil against human right violations in Tibet.

About 80 Tibetan students studying in various educational institutions of the city staged the candle-light vigil from Panjab University to Sector 17 Plaza. The students carried placards and banners depicting anti-Chinese slogans.

Tenzin Norsang, president of RTYC, Chandigarh said, “ Candle-light symbolizes peace and we the students want to spread the message of peace through the candle’s light.’’ Adding that the violations of human rights is a stain on the name of humanity which should be erased by the efforts of the youth.

Citing the example of accused Tibetan Lama, Tulku Tenzin Delek, Norsang said, “Lama Delek not just reflects the ongoing gross human rights violations in Tibet but also embodies the struggle of each and every Tibetan for freedom. ’’
