Edinburgh University Tibet Society (EUTS) held a 12 hour overnight vigil outside the Chinese Consulate over the night of 1st/2nd December. Seven students remained all night supported by many others bringing hot drinks and food throughout.
Iain Thom, President of EUTS said, “We are holding this vigil to ask the Chinese Consulate to express the strength of feeling in Edinburgh, over the unlawful death sentence of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, to the authorities in Beijing”
Tenzin Delek Rinpoche’s two year death sentence suspension ran out on the morning of the vigil.
Over 250 letters from the people of Edinburgh were collected by the students. On the morning of the 2nd the consulate refused to accept these pleas for justice.
The vigil was successful as part of the international campaign to help Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and linked in with awareness raising and action in Edinburgh and the Scottish Parliament.
