“While publicizing the urgent case of Tulku Tenzin Delek, we must, at the same time, speak of the continuous repression in Tibet by the Chinese Govt. …Despite sincere efforts of negotiation by the Tibetan Govt. in Exile for the last 20 years, China has failed to relent. So until there is a change in their policy, we must continue with our present struggle.” said Mr. Tempa Tsering , former Minister, Tibetan Govt. in Exile and the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Ceremony of the third-phase “All India Relay Hunger Strike” held on Monday in Bangalore.
Ms Vani Ganaphathy, renowned Indian Classical Dancer and a Social activist, attended the ceremony as the Guest of Honour. Other guests include Mrs. Asha Reddy, a staunch Tibet-supporter, who also coordinates the campaign and sits on Strike, Mrs Usha Krishnaswamy; famous Photojournalist and Tibet-supporter, Mr Gilbert Liroy, Former President, AET, France and a Documentary Filmmaker.
In her address to the participants, Ms Vani said, “I was simply amazed at the kind of patriotism you all show for your country and your brothers imprisoned in Tibet…I sincerely appreciate your endeavor and hope that people of the world become more aware of the Tibetan problem and support you… May Tibet and the Tibetans in Tibet become free”. Later Mr. Gilbert also addresses the gathering and extends his moral support and deep concern for the cause.
Earlier in the morning, the Ceremony begin with an introductory speech by Joint Secretary, Mr. Jigme Gadong, followed by the welcoming of the guests by offering scarf and memento by Vice President, Mr. Lobsang Yeshi. Later Mr. Tempa Tsering and Ms Vani Ganapathy formally inaugurated the Ceremony by lighting the lamp offerings. The singing of National Anthems and a minute’s mourning for the Tibetan martyrs followed this. The Guests and the representatives of the regional chapters also addressed the gathering. The ceremony concluded with a speech by Mr. Lobsang Yeshi wherein, he briefed on Tulku Tulku Delek case and China’s continuous repressive policy in Tibet.
In the afternoon, a Press Conference addressed by Vice President, Mr. Lobsang Yeshi and Mr Jigme was held at the Press Club. At the conference, the media was briefed on the details of the programme schedule that include Photo Exhibition, Pamphleteering, Signature campaign, Film-screening, Public address etc.
Subsequently, a Candle Light Vigil and a Prayer recitation were conducted in the evening. With this, the programme for the first day comes to an end. The ongoing campaign had over 350 participants from 9 regions including Bangalore, Bylakuppe, Chennai, Kollegal, Hunsur, Mangalore, Mysore, Dharwad, Hyderabad and Mundgod. Over 180 participants sat for the first day event and a substantial number of press reporters including Reuters, Indian Express, PTI, Times of India, Associate Press and The Hindu etc. arrived at the campaign site for the coverage.
Earlier, Mr Lobsang Nyandak, President, RTYC Mangalore, in his address said, “I am so happy today that such large number of Tibetans has come for the cause. I believe that through such participation and concerted efforts, we can certainly save our innocent Rinpoche. I am of the confidence that China can’t dare kill Tulku Tenzin Delek in the face of such protest. We must continue our struggle with similar zest and intensity if we are to realize our RANGZEN”
