Moscow, November 9 – The Russian Foreign Ministry has denied reports that it issued an entry visa to the Dalai Lama, Interfax news agency said Tuesday.
“The latest report suggests that so far neither the Russian Foreign Ministry nor the Russian Embassy in India (where the Dalai Lama lives) has received any applications seeking a Russian entry visa for the Dalai Lama. Consequently, no visa has been granted,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Troyansky told the news agency.
Asked about possible steps if such a visa application arrives, Troyansky said that “should such an application arrive, it will be considered in due course.”
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, president of the Russian republic of Kalmykia, said in Elista on Nov. 5 that the Dalai Lama would arrive in the city on Nov. 13 and stay there through Nov. 17, Interfax said.
