U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration, Arthur E. Dewey, visited Tibetan refugee reception center in Kathmandu Nepal on Wednesday.
He said he would report back to his Ministry in Washington D. C. about the situation of Tibetan refugees. He said the US government would continue its support to the refugee community through UNHCR.
He is promoting the protection and assistance of Tibetan refugees who either reside in or are in transit through Nepal.
The United States government has provided a total of $10.24 million to UNHCR, ICRC, the Tibet Fund and other organizations to assist refugees and conflict victims in South Asia in fiscal year 2004.
Hundred of refugee children had welcomed Dewey when he reached the refugee reception center.
The US Assistant Secretary is to leave for India and Bhutan upon his completion of his three-day visit to Nepal. He arrived in Kathmandu on Monday.
