Yes indeed, that was the Dalai Lama being whisked by security through O’Hare on Friday; the revered Tibetan spiritual leader caused quite a few double-takes as he walked between terminals to change planes. During his two-hour layover, the priest was greeted by a contingent from Chicago’s Tibetan community and gave a private audience to the city’s Asian liaison, Bart Moy, and Steve Schroeder, longtime supporter of the International Campaign for Tibet. Their wide-ranging chat covered everything from the Dalai Lama’s cautious optimism about improving relations with China to the American presidential campaign (Teresa Heinz Kerry has supported the Tibetan fund in the past) to his desire to see Millennium Park on his next visit.
