Vth Cultural Festival of Tibet in Paris

The Vth Cultural Festival of Tibet and the Peoples of the Himalaya will be held in Paris from September 18 to 19. This annual event in Parisian calendar is organised by the Maison Du Tibet under the Bureau Du Tibet, France. It attracts around 7000-10000 persons.

The main themes of the festival are: Tibetan dance and songs by Tibetan community and Mr Tshering Wangdu, films on Tibet, exhibition of Tibetan art and artifacts, photo exhibition, including on the young Panchen Lama by ICT, Holland, Tibetan restuarants, shops, stands for Tibet Support Groups and Bhuddhist Associations, lectures, story telling and a replica of Tibetan home to be organised by Tibetan community. A contingent of Tibetan drog khyi and yaks will be on show as well.

The main attraction of the festival will be making of huge tormas and mandala by 10 Gyuto monks. They will also lead the evening open air concert on Saturday evening. Lama Gyourme and Jean Philippe Rykiel and, Mr. Ngawang Khechog, year 2000 Grammy Award nominee, will complete the emsemble for the evening Concert for World Peace.

Ven. Choekyi Nyima Rinpoche will give a lecture on Buddhist philosphy and Centre Pouchkine and Mr. Jean Lassale will coordinate the presentation of exhibits and personal collections of Mr. Jean Lassale. The collection has great historical value as they are the stamps, currency notes and coins and military medals etc of Tibet.

The venue of the festival, Bois de Vincennce, is a large green belt park in the 12th district of Paris. While the photo shows and other Tibetan artifacts will be exhibited in the Pagoda, the film shows will be held in the Kagyu Dzong. The shops, the lectures and the stands by associations and Buddhist centres will be located in a vast open-air adjacent to the pagoda.
