Tibetan Community of Northern California announces the new elected board members amidst the celebration of Democracy day

The 44th anniversary of Tibetan Democracy was observed on September 2, 2004 in Berkeley, California. The Tibetan Association of Northern California (TANC) organized the function at Jew community hall.

Mr. Rinchen Dharlo, former Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Americas presided over the function as the Chief Guest. His speech included the importance of the role of Tibetan Associations in North America.

He emphasized on the need of keeping the Tibetan language and culture alive while walking shoulder to shoulder with fellow Americans. Keeping the Tibetan community in cluster sites was one of the main concerns of the board members of the Tibetan U.S. Resettlement Project, which helped, in bringing 1,000 Tibetan immigrants and their spouses in the United States, Mr. Dharlo added.

TANC’s former president, Mr. Chime Gonpo briefly read the activity report of the outgoing board and introduced Mr. Sangyel Tashi Mutiktaktsang, who was elected as the new president of the association. Mr. S. Tashi Mutiktaktsang, who previously served on the board of TANC as well as Rawang Legul Tsokchung in Dharamsala, delivered his inauguration speech by pledging that the new members will do their best in serving the needs of the Tibetan community in Bay Area.

4. Ms.Chemi Lhamo Treasurer
5. Ms. Tsering Youdon Cultural Coordinator
6. Mr. Namgyal Tenzin Event Coordinator
7. Mr. Tenzin Jigme Assistant event/system coordinator
8. Mr. Phuntsok Wangden Sports/Event Coordinator

The young members of TANC along with their music and dance teachers performed the Tibetan National Anthem, Mangtso Sarshey and two colorful folk dances.

The elected members of TANC thanked the outgoing board members with scarves and certificates received from the Office of Tibet, New York. The function also included speeches from new member Ms. Chime Lhamo, the out going president of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Mr. Topten .

Concluding the Tibetan Democracy Day was offering of ceremonial scarves to the new board members of TANC as well as to the new and old members of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress. This was followed by Traditional Circle Dances (Gorshary) participated by men and women of all ages.
