Lecture on “Sino-Indian Relation and Tibet Problem” at India Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi

New Delhi, September 10 – India Tibet Coordination office in collaboration with Department of English Journalism organized a lecture program on the aforementioned topic in IIMC where above 120 students of the institute participated.

While giving his inaugural speech Prof. Sarkar introduced Mr Dalip Mehta, a former Ambassador of India and Mr S.N. Dagpo Add. Secy of Department of Information and International Relation, Dharamsala.

Mr Mehta spoke on length, the future of Tibet in the context of India China relations. He says, “To a large extend, Tibet plays an important role to maintain the relation between India and China”. He also spoke on the historical background of the relation between the three neighboring countries.

“After the occupation of Tibet, India and China suddenly started sharing a long and several disputed border which ultimately lead to the 1962 War. In today’s, with the border dispute unresolved and China India being nuclear power, it is essential to resolve the conflict peacefully” He highlighted,

Lastly he also mentioned, ”Direct talks between Chinese leaders and special envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama has resumed which is evident from the fact that fresh dialogue has commenced”.

Mr Dagpo la speaking after Mr. Mehta spoke for around 30 minutes detailing a brief historical account of the Tibetan struggle before independence till now. Keeping the audience wish in his mind he highlighted the internationalization of the Tibet problem and the role played by various Tibet Support Groups.

He mentioned that especially during the Great Cultural Revolution, “Anything that can be identified with Tibet were abolished or destroyed by the Chinese”

After the two speakers, the floor was opened for the audience and various thought provoking and controversial questions were asked ranging from Karmapa issue to future political structure of Tibet to womens’ role in the struggle of Tibet.
A documentary movie titled “ Tibet; The Lost Horizon” was screened after the lecture program to the audience and along with it pamphlets and booklets were distributed to the students and staffs of the institute.
