Controversial advertisement for Tibet will be published tomorrow

Athens – Major Greek newspaper Eleftherotypia will tomorrow publish the International Tibet Support Network’s Tibet advertisement that has been the cause of controversy over the last few days. The ad shows five bullet holes replacing the Olympic rings with the message calling on all audience members of Sunday’s closing ceremony not to applaud the handing over of the Olympic flag to Beijing, the hosts of the 2008 games.

The International Tibet Support Network would like to apologise to Eleftherotypia for the misunderstanding that led us to believe that our ad would not be published. Ms. Dergou from Eleftherotypia was able to clarify their position of supporting human rights and the Tibet issue. Dechen Pemba from ITSN said: “We are sorry for this misunderstanding. However, we still would like to express our disappointment about Athens News’ and Kathemerini’s decision not to run the ad. We would like to thank Eleftherotypia for their support and strong stand.”
