COCHIN: The Cochin chapter of Friends of Tibet (INDIA) marked the ocassion for three days, doing an exhibiton a three-day exhibition of photos and paintings at Durbar Hall and candle light vigil on the last day.
About 100 Indian Tibet supporters and few resident Tibetans jointly marked the important day.
Calicut, Kerala: On July 6, 2004, the 69th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which is also observed as ‘World Tibet Day’, Friends of Tibet (India) will present the Dalai Lama with “Tibetan Dreams”, a piece of art that brings to life the story of Tibet, a spiritual country with a difficult tale to tell.
“Tibetan Dreams”, operated with mixed medium on canvas, portrays the Tibetan map formed with 69 butterflies trapped behind iron bars, representing a nation that has been converted into nothing but a colossal prison. The Tibetan National Flag forms the background of this painting. The artist of this painting is recipient of the National Lalithakala Academy award (1993), Francis Kodankandath an air intelligence officer and a member of Friends of Tibet.
Bombay: On the occasion of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s Birthday also celebrated as World Tibet day, Friends of Tibet (INDIA) Bombay Chapter held a film screening — Martin Scorsese’s ‘Kundun’ at Max Muller Bhavan, at the Kala Ghoda.
In his welcome address Aspi Mistry, Spokesperson of Friends of Tibet spoke about the significance of World Tibet day and referred to the statement issued by the Kashag (Tibetan Cabinet) on this occasion that included a few lines responding to China’s policy document ‘White Paper on Tibet’.
Mr mistry, also referred to the UN session in 1950 where the issue of Tibet was deferred under India’s request and dill date, even after 54 years remain deferred. He now calls on all Indians to put pressure on their leaders and request that this issue may be taken up at the UN. This is one way in which Indian can undo the mistake it made in 1950.
Tenzin Tsundue, General Secretary of Friends of Tibet proposed the vote of thanks. in his note he said that it would be in everybody’s interest to resolve the Tibet issue during the lifetime of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, else the chaos it may cause would push the world into tragedy.
PUNE, Maharashtra: Pune Chapter of Friends of Tibet(India) in association with the Tibetan Students Association, Pune screened of the film ‘Kundan’ (Directed by: Martin Scorsese) on July 6, 2004 — World Tibet Day, also the birthday of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama at the Indian Institute of e-Business Management (IIeBM), Pune. Dr Mira Sadgopal, Friends of Tibet Co-ordinator for Pune and members of Tibetan Students Association, Pune spoke on the occasion.
