Brussels, July 10 – The Tibetan community in Belgium gathered in the city of Antwerpen to celebrate 69th Birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Saturday, July 10th. Over three hundred Tibetans living in Belgium and their Belgian friends took part in the day long celebration.
The day began with long life prayer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama led by lamas and monks and offering of scarves to the portrait of His Holiness. Mr. Lhakpa Yontsang, President of the community, in his introductory speech called for unity among the Tibetans and to keep good friendly relations with the citizens of the host country. The Secretary and Accountant of the board respectively read out the annual report on the community’s political and social activities and accounts to the general public.
Ven. Lama Karta of Yeuntenling Buddhist centre spoke on the occasion followed by reading of the Kashag’s statement to the occasion by Mr. Migyur Dorjee from the Office of Tibet, Brussels. Mr. Dorjee once again appealed to the general public the importance of conducting special long life prayers and recitation of mantras specially compiled by the Department of Religious Affairs, Dharamsala, for long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and for the general cause of Tibet.
After the lunch varieties of traditional Tibetan songs and dances from different regions of Tibet were performed, which were well appreciated by our Belgian friends.
