Dharamsala, March 31 – The National Democratic Party of Tibet on behalf of the Tibetans yesterday reiterated that unless the Tibet issue was resolved the restoration of the peace and good relations between India and China would remain just a diplomatic show.

In a letter to the Prime Minister Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mr Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok president, National Democratic Party of Tibet NDPT said the improving relations between India and China were welcome but impressed up Mr Vajpayee to make an earnest effort to resolve the issue of Tibet’s freedom.

In his letter the NDTP president said, “After the invasion and the illegal occupation of Tibet in 1959 China shamelessly attacked and invaded India in 1962. China is still occupying 40,000 square miles of the Indian territory (Aksai Chin) the Pengong area and Denchok in Ladakh, the Spiti area, Shipki pass and the Nilang Jadhang area in H.P., the Bharahoti area in U.P, Khinze Mane, Shatse, Lonju and Migyitun in Arunachal Pradesh).”

He doubting the integrity of China he said it continued to transform the Himalayan borders in Tibet into military zones and was assisting insurgents in Pakistan, Nepal, Mayanmar and Bangladesh.

To,
His Excellency,
Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee
Prime Minister,
Delhi India

Your Excellency,

The National Democratic Party of Tibet on behalf of all the Tibetans extends our hearty welcome and appreciates the relation between the Two Asian Giants becoming closer and our special greetings to your Excellency Chinese Defense Minister Mr. Cao Gangchuan’s visit to India. But then at the same time we believe unless the issue of Tibet is not solved, the restoration of peace and tranquil relationship amidst India and China will remain just a diplomatic show up.

After the invasion and illegal occupation of Tibet in 1959, China shamelessly attacked and invaded India in 1962. China is still occupying 40,000 square miles of Indian Territory (Aksai Chin, The Pangong area and Demchok in Ladhak, The Spiti area, Shipki pass, and The Nilang Jadhang area in HP, Bara Hoti area in UP, Khinzemane, Shatse, Longju and Migyitun in Arunachal Pradesh.) Today China’s military arsenal is believed to include 17 secrets radar stations, eight-missile bases with at least eight intercontinental ballistic missiles, 70 medium range and 20 immediate range missiles. Some of the missiles stored in Tibetan plateau have a range of nearly 13000 kms, which could reach many parts of Asia. China continued to transform the Himalayan borders in Tibet into the Military Zone and assist the insurgents in neighboring countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Therefore, we would be deeply obliged if your Excellency can make an attempt to make an earnest resolution for the Tibet’s Freedom. It will also help to maintain peace in South Asian Countries and the security of India. We shall remain indebted to you if your Excellency would support our genuine cause.

Thanking you with much anticipation,

Yours sincerely,
Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok,
President, NDPT
National Democratic Party of Tibet, Dharmsala

C.C. His Excellency Shri. George Fernandes, Defense Minister, India
