Beijing – Two strong aftershocks measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale rocked a largely uninhabited part of Tibet on Monday, but officials said no casualties had been reported yet.
“The epicentre of the earthquakes have all been in Bange county, in Qinghai province in the northern part of Tibet,” an official at the National Seismological Bureau in Beijing told AFP.
“The area is largely uninhabited, so so far no casualties or damages have been reported.”
Earlier on Sunday two quakes measuring 5.8 and 6.3 on the Richter scale shook the region about 500km north of the Tibetan capital Lhasa.
Monday’s temblors occurred at 6.27am and 6.45am, (22.27 and 22.45 GMT on Sunday), the bureau said.
The region sits on the Tibetan plateau between the Himalayan and Kunlun Mountains and is prone to earthquakes.
