Peace March in Tokyo to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day

Tokyo, March 13 – Approximately 100 Tibet supporters and Tibetans gathered at Miyashita Park in Shibuya, Tokyo to show their solidarity for the Tibetan Cause. Tibet Support Network, Japan (TSNJ) which comprises of more than 15 Tibet support groups from all over Japan, organized the Peace March to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day in Tokyo at Shibuya.

Mr Masaki Kamata of Amnesty International, Japan (Tibet Team) told the gathering that we should neither forget the massacre of March 10th, 1959 in Lhasa nor the ongoing human rights violation in Tibet under Chinese Occupation.

The Founder/Chairman of the Japan Parliamentary Group for Tibet (JPGT) – Mr Seishu Makino in his speech said, “It has been more than ten years since the Parliamentarian Group for Tibet was formed. From now on, we will put all our efforts to have China on the Table with Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for a genuine discussion on the future of the Tibet according to the wishes of the Tibetans”.

The March 10th Statement of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was read out in Japanese to the gathering by Mr Lungtok – Culture & Information Officer of the Liaison Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Japan & East Asia.

The Peace March lead by Mr Makino and other prominent supporters started at 2pm from Miyashita Park and covered the most crowded commercial streets of Shibuya including the Shibuya Station. The demonstrators drew the attention of the Youth in Shibuya with their slogan of free Tibet and the colorful Tibetan National flags.
