TORONTO – The Dalai Lama will come to Canada in April to receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from the University of Toronto.
The Dalai Lama, whose name is Tenzin Gyatso, is being honoured by the university on April 27 for his spiritual leadership and commitment to the non-violent liberation of the Tibetan people, the school said in a release.
The spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, the Dalai Lama was born in eastern Tibet in 1935 but has lived in exile in northern India since 1959.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for promoting human rights in Tibet.
The Dalai Lama will also lead services and speak at SkyDome while in Toronto.
