Tibetan Association of Southern California, Los Angeles Friends of Tibet, Orange County Friends of Tibet and the Elected Representative of North America Tibetans, Protest and a Press Conference at the Bowers Museum, Saturday, February 21, 2004, at 10:30 AM. “LOSAR BOD-GYALO 2131” to address the issues listed below with their exhibit called: “Tibet: Treasures from the Roof of The World.”

  • Reprehensible treatment and censorship of Tibetans and Americans involved with the exhibit by some of Bowers Museum’s officials, which include prohibition of portraits, name and history of His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, the refugee status of Tibetans and the recent history of Tibet.
  • Incomplete and deceptive portrayal of Tibet’s History at the exhibit. The deliberate omission at the exhibit of Tibet’s history since the 1900s and the invasion of Tibet by China and the ensuing events resulting in tremendous loss of life and cultural destruction.
  • The disingenuous way Bowers Museum officials have used His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s letter, which they requested, for marketing purposes and failing to live to the spirit of that letter.
  • Improper exhibit captions and inadequate docent narratives
