A meeting at the Tibet Building, New York, which, was called for the election for 2004 board members of The Regional Tibetan Women’s Association of New York and New Jersey, turned into a special moment as the community leaders and individuals asked the current RTWA members to serve an extra year to make the term two years.
In the past RTWA board had a term of only one year. Everyone present at the meeting felt that it was too short to learn the needs and concerns of the Tibetan Community. As such Mrs. Phurbu Dolma, Vice president of Central TWA, Mr. Dorji Kunthup of Office of Tibet, Mr. Karma Khedup, President of Tibetan Community, Mr. Jhampa Yonten of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Mr. Tashi Wangdu, former president of RTYC requested the current members to serve an extra year, as it will also set the rule in the future. As a result of their suggestion, seven out of nine current members agreed to serve the RTWA board until the end of 2004 making. The seven board members are Ms. Tenzing Bhuti, Ms. Ngodup Wangmo, Ms. Tenzin C. Dharlo, Ms. Palden Khando, Ms. Lhamo Choedon, Ms. Thupten Choekyi and Ms. Tsering Bhuti. Ms. Tsetan Wangmo and Ms. Tashi Palkeyi have served RTWA of New York and New Jersey for the year 2003.
General members of TWA and the guests also had the opportunity to listen to Mrs. Phurbu Dolma, the Vice President of Central TWA who gave a brief yet significant and dominant speech. She spoke about the role women play in our society as well the role of Central TWA and Regional TWAs. President and Accountant of RTWA NY & NJ also had the opportunity to address the crowd on the many facets of activities organized by RTWA during the year 2003.
Board members of RTWA, NY/NJ would like to thank each and everyone who came for the election and we hope to receive continued
support in the coming years. We would also like to thank Mrs. Phurbu Dolma la for giving us inspiration and to our fellow friends from the Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey and the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress for their solidarity.
SEASONS GREETINGS TO YOU ALL!
May the year 2004 bring all the good things in our lives and peace all over the world!
Long Live Tibet!
