Submission of a petition to the Swiss Parliament and Government

Berne, 16 September 2003 – Today the Swiss Tibet Support Groups submitted a petition to the Swiss Parliament and Government which was signed by more than 23’000 people from all parts of the country. The petition demands stronger Swiss efforts for the self-rule of the Tibetan people. For that purpose Switzerland is to launch an UNO resolution. Furthermore, the situation in Tibet is to become a topic of all Swiss-Sino contacts. The petition also demands the recognition of the Tibetan Government in Exile if there is no considerable progress in the relations between Beijing and Dharamsala within the next three years. Last but not least the petition demands an official reception of H.H. the Dalai Lama by the Swiss Government. The submission of the petition was accompanied by about 50 Tibetans and their friends and found the keen interest of the Swiss media.
