A newly formed Tibet Support Group, Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch Assam Unit in coordination with Bharat Tibbat Samanvia Kendra, for the first time organized a Tibet awareness meeting in the capital city of Assam at Jalan Smriti Bhawan, Chamber Road, Fancy Bazar, Guwahati on 28th May 2005.
The meeting, which was attended by almost 150 people, was presided by Shri. Satish Tahbildab. Main guests of the function were Shri. Nabhojyoti Deka, Brig. (Retd), Shri. K.C. Agnihotri, National Co-convener, Core Group for Tibetan Cause. Guests on the dais were welcomed by presenting an Assames scarf followed by burning incense and offering flowers to the portrait of Bharat Mata by guests present.
Mr. Satish Ji spoke in the Assames language and gave a brief introduction of the function and the guest. Shri. Deka ji, spoke in length on the ways Chinese are eradicating the Tibetan culture and identity, and strategic importance of Tibet as a buffer zone between two Asian giants, India and China. He further touched the importance of Tibet’s fragile environment and river system to Indian subcontinent.
He further said that in order to protect Human Rights, culture and identity of the Tibetan people, support for the Tibet is extremely needed at this critical period of time.
Shri. K.C. Agnihotri dwelt on the importance of BTSM in the region. He touched every aspects of Tibetan problem and gave a detail account of Tibet issue from 1947 onwards. The audience paid a keen attention with great enthusiasm to his speech, which helped the participant to understand the issue better.
Mr. Gelek Namgyal, staff of India Tibet Coordination Office, gave an inside into the five Point Peace Plan and the Strasbourg Proposal and Tibetan government-in-exile stand on Autonomy. He further touched on His Holiness Dalai Lama’s envoy visit to Tibet. At last he thanks people and government of India for their steadfast sympathy and support for Tibetan Cause.
Shri. J.C. Shyam, spoke in Assames language and he said that he was very much impressed with this gathering and wish that it would be good if such meetings are organize in future in their region.
At the conclusion, the entire participant present in the meeting unanimously passed three resolutions on Tibet. Mr. Jawahar Thakur convener, Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, Assam unit coordinated the function
Before the opening of the meeting light refreshment was arranged and after the conclusion a lunch was given to all the people present in the meeting
India Tibet Coordination Office distributed books and pamphlets to the participants in the meeting.
