Kathmandu, May 21 – The Kathmandu-Lhasa bus service that was suspended due to visa complications resumed today after the government of China eased visa regulations.
“The problem was solved after two rounds of talks with the councillor at the Chinese embassy,” said Mukunda Raj Satyal, executive head of Sajha Yatayat.
According to him, the visa problem arose as Chinese officials were on a week-long leave from May 1.
The bus belonging to Himalayan Transport that came from Lhasa last Friday left Kathmandu this morning with only three passengers that included one Nepali.
The Sajha buses were unable to ply on scheduled days, as visas for passengers were not issued on time.
“The Chinese government is concerned over the interruption of the bus service and the officials are very much positive on making the historic event a grand success,” Satyal said.
Chinese officials, however, have requested Sajha Yatayat to provide necessary documents for the issuance of visa at least seven days in advance so that they can issue the same in time.
Visas for 39 passengers who had applied earlier have already arrived and the next bus would leave for Lhasa unknown.
