MYSORE – The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) and Regional Tibetan Women’s Association (RTWA) have urged the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour to release the world’s youngest political prisoner and 11th Panchen Lama Gedhun Choekyi Nyima without any pre-condition.
After taking out a procession to celebrate the 16th birthday of the Panchen Lama here on Monday, office-bearers of RTYC and RTWA submitted a memorandum addressed to the UN High Commission for Human Rights, to the Deputy Commissioner urging the immediate release of the spiritual leader.
The organisations urged the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights to provide religious education to their spiritual leader to assume his spiritual responsibilities. The Commission should also send a ‘fact finding’ delegation comprising representatives of Human Rights and Child Rights Commission, Tibetan supporters and NGOs to observe Nyima’s living conditions under the Chinese regime.
About 500 members of RTYC and RTWA from Bylakuppe, Hunsur, Mysore and Kollegal took out the procession from Town Hall to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
