Delhi has been turned virtually into a fort, manned by a robust army of Delhi Police force. All eyes and guns are busy scanning for Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) activists who have been here in the capital city to protest against the visit of Chinese Premiere Wen Jiabao.

Phone lines have been tapped and all outgoing and incoming calls on certain phone numbers of TYC youth leaders are being listened to.

After the Saturday storming of the Chinese Embassy, security has been beefed up at all places where Tibetans reside in Delhi. The secret services of Delhi police after a busy weekend managed to trace down a location where a certain group of TYC members were staying and has sealed the place. Over 100 policemen have been standing vigil at the location and all the TYC members putting up at the particular location, numbering around a triple score have been put under house arrest. In the past 24 hours more than five different teams of Indian police personnel have grilled the group of TYC members.

TYC members who were caught during the Chinese embassy demonstrations were charged under Section 107/151 of CRPC and have been sent to Tihar Jail.

But, nevertheless, the corridors of activism are very much alive in the TYC camp and network of underground TYC activists are planning the next major move.

India’s leading news channel, Aaj Tak and Headlines Today have been telecasting the whole day, as a special report, the movements of a certain group of TYC activists spotting locations according to Wen Jiabao’s itinerary for further agitation while keeping the anonymity of the places visited. For the second consecutive day the leading newspapers in the capital city have carried stories of the TYC demonstrations, highlighting the Tibetans’ demand of Complete Independence.

As the Chinese premiere Wen Jiabao and Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh exchange new maps today, the world has to realise that Tibet will be transacted along with a huge business deal. As Chinese premiere Wen Jiabao sells India the dream of working together and becoming the next IT giant, Tibet will be sold to that dream.

The build up of events of the last couple of days, beginning from the preemptive arrests of TYC leaders in Bangalore prior to Wen Jiabao’s visit, to the tightening of security in Delhi like never before, to the extent of tapping phones – these all send a strong message to the Tibetans that just waiting and hoping for some ‘negotiated’ settlement and wishing for help from other countries are not politically correct or diplomatically feasible. India, like many other nations is not in the mood to displease China.

Tibetans have to champion their cause themselves. Tibetans have to make themselves heard. Tibetans have to strive hard to push the issue of Tibet on the agenda list whenever other nations talk with China.

However strong the odds maybe, TYC activists in Delhi will surely make the right noises at the right places.
