New Delhi, April 6 – The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has paid tribute to Pope John Paul II, calling him a ‘great leader of humanity’.

Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, the Dalai Lama said he had felt a close personal connection with the pontiff, who died on Saturday.

“When I first met him, at once, there was some kind of very close sort of feeling and he knows about my sort of situation. So he was always very sympathetic and besides that, of course, he always stressed the importance of spiritual values, and harmony, so I really feel great loss.”
