On the 46th anniversary of National Tibetan Women’s Uprising day, the Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) is flagging off a Peace March from four different regions of India. Over 700 Tibetans mostly women are taking part in this march which coincides deliberately with the Women’s Uprising Day on 12 March 1959 when thousands of Tibetan women took to the streets of Lhasa to demonstrate against the illegal occupation of Tibet by the Chinese troops.

The TWA is calling for an actual and meaningful negotiation on the future of Tibet. This march will appeal for more proactive support from the Indian public as well as the international community to the ongoing confidence building measures between the envoys of H.H. the Dalai Lama and the Chinese leadership. The leaders of the peace march in respective regions will adequately address villages and towns on the Tibetan issue.
