Brussels, March 10 – In spite of consistent pressures from the Chinese Embassy Mr. Didier GOSUIN, Mayor of the Auderghem commune of the city Brussels dedicated three days from 10th to 12th March in honour of Tibet to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising. Belgian Tibetan friends and the Tibetans in Belgium assembled in front the Auderghem Mayor Office building. The day was introduced by Mrs. Claude Leguerrier and Mr. Christian Coppens: It is said that mayor’s office with help from the Tibetans in Belgium organized a series of lectures and presentations on Tibetan culture, history, religion and tradition to the students of the schools under this commune. Students’ vision for Tibet and their expression of supports for its cause depicted through drawings and other forms of arts are on display in the commune exhibition hall.

Mayor Mr. Gosuin while welcoming the participants of the occasion said “protection of the democracy and promotion of the human rights are the fundamental principles of ours and we will do whatever possible to protect these and restore to the Tibetan people”. He further said “the Tibetan national flag is being hoisted in front of this building and a three- day exhibition is being held in the Commune centre to show our support and solidarity to the Tibetan people and we will continue to do so in the coming years.”

Mr. Migyur Dorjee from the Office of Tibet, Brussels, read out the statement of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the occasion of 46th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day. On the request from the organiser he hoisted the Tibetan national flag and the Tibetans sung the Tibetan National anthem. Mr. Dorjee said “It is a great honour to hoist the Tibetan National Flag which unfortunately is banned in its own country.” He thanked the Mayor and organizers for their support and solidarity with the Tibetans and urged for their continued support to the peaceful and nonviolence struggle of the Tibetan people until a solution to the Tibetan problem is found as envisioned by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

There will be a major peaceful joint demonstration in the diplomatic area of the city of Brussels on 13th March by the Tibetans and the Belgian Tibet Support Groups to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising day.
