Mysore, March 10 – About 350 members of Tibetan Youth Congress of the region consisting of the residents of Tibetan Settlements in Mysore, Bylakuppe, Hunsur and Kollegal, including women, took out a peaceful march in the city this morning to commemorate the 46th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day against the illegal Chinese occupation of Tibet and the rule.
The procession, which started from the Town Hall here, with a Tata Sumo vehicle on which was placed a portrait of Dalai Lama, the religious head of the Tibetans, moved via KR Circle and Devaraja Urs Road before reaching the Deputy Commissioner’s Office where the leaders submitted a memorandum with a request to pass it on to India’s Prime Minister and also the United Nation’s Secretary General.
Later, the marchers returned to the Town Hall via Metropole Circle, Railway Station Circle, Ayurveda College Circle, Irwin Road and Ashoka Road, before holding a brief meeting and then dispersing.
The activists held placards with the following legends written in English: ‘Stop human rights violation in Tibet,’ UNO, we want justice,’ ‘Chinese: stop killing in Tibet,’ We want unconditional release of all political prisoners in Tibet.’
They also displayed banners saying ‘Tibet’s independence is India’s independence,’ ‘Free Tulku Tenzin.’
Several vehicles accompanied the processionists.
