NEW YORK, March 5 – In a press release issued on March 3, Representative Joe Parisi of Wisconsin State Assembly reported the introduction of Assembly Joint Resolution 18, declaring March 10, 2005 as the Tibet Day.
Parisi said the resolution honors “the memory of more than one million Tibetans who have died in their struggle.”
Terming March 10 as “a solemn reminder of one of the darkest moments in Tibetan history”, the resolution said that human rights and freedom for Tibetans should be the concern of all freedom-loving people in the state of Wisconsin and the US in general.

Introduced by Representatives Parisi, Black, Pope-Roberts, Seidel, Pocan, Berceau, Davis, Bies, Hebl and Lehman, cosponsored by Senator Miller, Referred to Committee on Rules.
Relating to: declaring March 10, 2005, Tibet Day.
Whereas, the United States Congress has enacted legislation declaring Tibet an occupied country whose true representatives are the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile; and
Whereas, the United Nations human rights subcommission has passed a resolution concerning the present threat to the distinct cultural, religious, and national identity of the Tibetan people; and
Whereas, the suppression of human rights and freedom in Tibet must be the concern of all freedom-loving people everywhere; and
Whereas, on March 10, 2005, Tibetans throughout the world will gather in their host countries to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the Tibetan national Uprising against the Chinese occupation of their country and to honor more than one million Tibetans who died in their struggle for the independence of Tibet; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin Tibetan association and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Students for a Free Tibet will this year gather at the state capitol in Madison; and
Whereas, it is fitting that we recognize Wisconsin’s Tibetan community and its plea for justice on this 46th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature proclaim March 10, 2005, “Tibet Day”.
