Voluntary Community Social Service (VCSS) Plays a significant role in and around Tibetan Society in promoting social activities. In between 2004-05, they have been engaged in relieving the victims of unimagined Tsunami, which swept away thousands of lives. They have undertaken two major projects in the year 2004-05 entitled “Tibetans for Tsunami relief” and “Tibetan students for Tsunami relief” amounting Rs.60,000 and Rs 1,60,000 respectively.
The main objectives of these projects were to serve and support the poor and needy people through Buddhist principles concerning love, compassion and generosity. “Tibetan Buddhism is not only a religion but a science which should be applied to day to day life. These projects have given a good opportunity to young blooded Tibetans to empowering their learned Buddhism in to practice,” Says Tashi Dhondup, the president of VCSS.
In due course of the two projects, firstly they constructed primary school in New Kalpakkam village (Chennai) and promoted other different social activities relating to it. The second project was taken under the umbrella of Tibet foundation, India and was funded by Tibet foundation, U.K.
“While we were working for our first project, we realized that it was very difficult for the victims of Tsunami to dwell inside the provided plastics tents during the hot summer days. Thus the second project was devoted in building temporary sheds made up of thatch. Unfortunately due to limited time for students, we were able to build only 30 houses,” says Tashi Dhondup.
Indeed they sacrificed the biggest Tibetan festival i.e. Losar (Tibetan New Year) and took this opportunity serving the cause. Headed by himself and his members along with TSAM members coordinated by Aunty Ashaa Reddy, the projects ended successfully according to their vision and mission. As it is rightly said that the first person to trod an untrodden snow may tremble most, but they have definitely paved a new path to the younger Tibetan generation of today.
