TYC and the Tibetans all over the world strongly denounce Nepalese Government’s closure of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Offices in Kathmandu.

The closure severely hampers the interest and welfare of thousands of Tibetan refugees residing in Nepal particularly those who continue to flee Tibet in transit through Nepal. The Offices look after the welfare of over 20,00 thousand Tibetan refugees residing in Nepal and also facilitates the smooth transit of over 3000 Tibetan each year, fleeing Tibet from the Chinese atrocities. Consequently the closure of the Offices leaves these thousands of Tibetans without crucial support.

Though Tibetans are greatly indebted to the Nepalese Government and people for their invaluable contribution and support to the Tibetan refugees in its Diaspora. However a geo-political reasons, notwithstanding the perspective shift in its policy towards the Tibetans in the recent years, had caused a great concern to everyone. This goes against the principles of a democratic society and Nepal’s very own constitution, which enshrines basic rights to the Tibetan. These had earned Nepal the notoriety, disrepute and the wrath of all civilized worlds proving immensely detrimental for its international prestige.

The Nepalese Government’s decision to deport Thirteen Tibetan refugees back to Tibet, two years ago, had stirred-up international outcry, resulting in the oppositions and pressures from Government of India, United States, European Union and United Nation etc which subsequently forced Nepal to reconsider its decision. Today’s action would evoke more intensified international denouncement. The recent decision to close the Offices of His Holiness the Dalai Lama has caused similar protests from all over the world for Nepal’s policy towards Tibetan refugees.

On behalf of all the Tibetans both inside and outside Tibet, TYC hereby seek the re-opening of the Offices and assurance of highest consideration from the Nepalese Government, so that small Tibetan community in Nepal could enjoy the sense of security and dignity and that the continuation of a smooth passages to freedom for the thousands of Tibetans fleeing Tibet is ensured and maintained.
