Nepal-China border talks in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, December 7 – Nepal and China began consultations on the Sino-Nepal border issue by reviewing reports on the internal inspection on border pillars.

“The talks will lead to an effective border inspection mechanism for border regulating issues,” Hira Bahadur Thapa, Under Secretary at the foreign ministry who is leading the seven member Nepali delegation and Li Qingyun Senior advisor on boundary issues at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign ministry is leading the Chinese side.

The two-day discussions between delegations from both the countries will also focus on matters relevant to the future works related to the third joint inspection of the Nepal-China border, Foreign Ministry officials said.

This is the second meeting on the third joint inspection of Nepal-China border. The first meeting on Nepal-China border was held in Beijing in April this year with both the sides agreeing to maintain and regulate the bordering pillars between the two countries.

As per a 1963 protocol on the issue, Nepal and China jointly inspect their border every 10 years.
