The golden jubilee national conference of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad,the largest student’s organization of India was held in the pink city, Jaipur from 29th to 31st of October,2004. Around 7000 active members of ABVP attended this conference besides, foreign guest delegates from 7 countries viz. Kenya, Japan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri lanka, Bhutan also attended as an observer. As per the invitation given to the organization by ABVP and considering it as a great opportunity to highlight the Tibetan issue, the public relations officer of the organization, Mr. Tsering Dhundup attended the conference as a foreign guest delegate representing our country, Tibet. He was accompanied by four executive members of regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Delhi namely Mr. Karma Thupten, Mr. Sherap Gyatso, Mr. Tenzin Tsepal and Ms. Tsering dolma.
On 30th of October, all foreign students were introduced and were felicitated by the general secretary of ABVP and were presented with a bouquet and our representatives were specially cheered as unlike other foreign delegates they were all in their traditional dress ‘chupa’. The five representatives took every opportunity to inform people about the plight of Tibet. They setup a counter and distributed books and pamphlets regarding the facts about Tibet and how Tibet’s independence is India’s security. They also explained and clarified to the questions and queries from peoples.
On 31st of October, a parallel session of foreign guest delegates was held in which the PRO Mr. Tsering Dhundup spoke about the aim and objectives, activities, members, regional chapters, functioning and the achievements of Tibetan youth congress. Besides Mr. Karma Thupten spoke about the deteriorating situation of Tibet since the Chinese occupation and our continuing freedom struggle.
In his concluding speech MR. Dattatreya Hosabale, the chairman of the session and the general secretary of WOSY assured to give their full support to the TYC’s struggle for independence and to create civic and political pressure on China so that it is not able to suppress Tibetan culture, tradition and religion. He further added that TYC’s freedom struggle is justified. In the evening the new central executive and, the regional and zonal incharges of ABVP were declared and our representatives personally met them all, explained the critical situation of Tibet,handed over pamphlets and appealed to them to render their kind support to our cause and got reply in affirmation.
