The Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader, has called on South African education institutions to take the lead in instilling values in society. He was speaking at the start of the national dance and music festival at Vista University in Soweto.
The Dalai Lama has emphasised that over and above the developments of human intellectual property, educational institutions should also take a proactive role in nurturing the positive human elements of compassion and ethics.
He also said that cultural and traditional practices play an important role in this regard. He said he felt honoured and privileged to officially open the dancing music festival and gave the proceedings his blessings.
The festival brings together cultural and dance music items from the Sesotho, Sepedi, Ndebele, IsiZulu and IsiXhosa cultures.
