GANGTOK, October 26 – A colourful cultural programme was presented by Ravangla Tibetan Settlement Central School yesterday here at Community Hall that was attended by more than a 1000 people from the Tibetan community.
The main motive behind organising this programme was to raise funds that will be later utilised for purchase of traditional Tibetan costumes for the school and other cultural items.
While the Secretary of the state Ecclesiastical Department was the chief guest of the programme, the guest of honour was Tashi Yangchen, an employee of the state Information Technology Department, who was recently crowned Miss Tibet 2004 at Dharamsala during the Free Spirit Festival.
The event saw an active participation of the Tibetan school students and members of Tibetan associations who presented various traditional songs and dances.
It is learnt that the entire Tibetan community helped in making this programme a success by donating wholeheartedly for the cause.
The chief guest expressed his happiness that the Tibetan students were engaged in promoting their culture and tradition and added that he felt honoured at being invited as the chief guest of such a programme. He further said that holding of such programmes was not only restricted to raising funds but it was also a reminder to the Tibetan community, especially the youth, of the existence of their rich culture and tradition.
