Kelsang Dolma Dodin will be running the New York Marathon on November 7, 2004 to raise fund for Tibet Foundation and Tibet Relief Fund. Kelsang’s latest challenge will become yet another inspiring event having recently completed the London Marathon and raised over £2400 for Tibet Foundation projects. Kelsang was born in Ladakh, northern India in 1976. Her interest in sports and music began at an early age and was further developed in the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) School in Dharamsala, seat of the Exile Tibetan Administration.

On Sunday 18 April 2004, Kelsang ran the London Marathon, the first ever Tibetan to take part in this great international sporting event. The marathon is open to any nationality irrespective of belief, race or cultural background. This year, some 33,000 runners from 54 different countries including Mongolia and Tibet took part.

The Daily Telegraph, a UK national newspaper recorded 100 facts on the recent London Marathon. The 75th fact read, “Kelsang Dolma Dodin became the first Tibetan woman to compete”.
