Geshe Jampel Senge to attend Inter-Religious Conference on “Religion, Peace and the Olympic Ideal” in Athens.
Under the auspices of His Excellency, President Constantine Stephanopoulos of Greece and at the invitation of BATHOLOMEW, Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, an Inter-religious Conference heralding the beginning of the Athens Olympic Games is being held in Athens from August 10-11,2004.
Geshe Jampel Snege, Assistant Abbot at the Tibetan Institute, Rikon, Switzerland, is representing His Holiness the Dalai Lama at this Conference.
The Conference entitled, “Religion, Peace and the Olympic Ideal” is being organized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Olympic Municipality of Amaroussion, Greece.
It provides a forum for a declaration of the principle of peaceful co-existence amongst all human beings and all peoples. This principle is part of the Olympic Ideal, manifested through the Olympic Truce.
