Dharamsala, June 15 – Tibetan nuns should fight for equality with men through education, said Kalon Thupten Lungrik.
Kalon Thupten Lungrik was speaking as the chief guest at a modest function held for the convocation of nuns of Dolmaling who graduated in Pharchin (Prajaniparamitra) Ramjampa. Nuns were never in the history of Tibetan Buddhism honoured with degrees of Pharchin Ramjampa. Earlier last month, Shugseb nunnery honoured its first batch of nuns.
Both Dolmaling and Shugseb are run under the Tibetan Nuns’ Project which is headed by former Kalon Rinchen Khando.
The nuns of Dolmaling expressed their gratitude to Ms. Rinchen Khando, Ms. Betsy and Ani Lobsang Dechen for their role in bringing up Dolmaling for fourteen years.
Ven. Rinchen, the principal of the nunnery, briefed the gathering about Dolmaling’s academic journey from a limited number of subjects a few years ago to multi-education system today.
Kasur Rinchen Khando thanked Kalon Thupten Lungrik, members of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies and local assembly, representatives of the various non – governmental organisations for their presence at the convocation.
At present there are 677 nuns studying various fields of Buddhism at the nunnery.
