London, May 25 – The Tibet Foundation is hosting an exhibition “Tibet: A Living Culture” in Glasgow during the spiritual tour by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Scottish city from 29 May to 1 June 2004. The exhibition will be at the Scottish Conference and Exhibition Centre (SECC) adjacent to the main teaching hall.

The exhibition focuses on the everyday life of the Tibetan people in their homelands. Over 400 exhibition items including Tibetan tents, religious instruments used in monasteries, musical instruments, formal and monastic costumes, Buddhist shrines and statues, thangkas and much more will be on display.

Visitors will be able to gain a unique insight into the ordinary life of the Tibetan people with historical photos of Tibet both before and after 1950. Karma Hardy, director of Tibet Foundation says, “We have a very large collection of Tibetan artefacts gathered over many years. We are very pleased to display these once again in Glasgow during the forthcoming visit by His Holiness.”

The Foundation exhibition material was previously seen at the Commonwealth Institute in 1995, marking the 10th Anniversary of the Tibet Foundation, and also at the Wembley Conference Centre in 1999 and 1993 during His Holiness’ London visits. The Foundation’s “Tibet: A Living Culture” exhibition was also hosted in other parts of the world – Helsinki Museum (Finland -1998), Wanganui (New Zealand -1996) and Barcelona (Spain -1994).

Established in 1985, London based Tibet Foundation works towards creating greater awareness of all aspects of Tibetan culture and the needs of the Tibetan people. The Foundation helps Tibetan communities in India and Nepal as well as inside Tibet through its aid programmes including Aid to Tibet and Tibetans in Exile. The Foundation also helps the Mongolian people towards revival of their Buddhist tradition. Through its Art & Culture programme, the Foundation organises many events from tours of performing artistes, sacred music by monks, visits of Lamas and traditional Tibetan medical doctors from India.
