Kathmandu, April 22 – As the days of indefinite hunger striker’s reaches 22 in New York, and with the people around the globe showing their support, Tibetan community in Kathmandu also pitched in their solidarity today. In a day long hunger strike and prayer session that RTYC organized here, quite a number of people turned up. As the day weared on, worried conversation about the deteriorating health condition of the hunger strikers in NY could be heard from every corner. Most of the people wondered why the international organizations aren’t doing anything.
Kathmandu being a politically sensitive area because of the heavy-handedness of the Chinese towards any Tibet related issues, organizing such an event remains an uphill task. Distribution of information pamphlet prior to the occasion could only mean alerting the security forces.
Words of mouth, albeit a little sluggish remains the only option to choose from. At the venue, RTYC distributed papers explaining the essence of the occasion and also introduced a signature campaign where all the attendees most willingly showed their support and signed. With the Tibetan Government in Exile choosing to remain neutral from this campaign and with nothing concrete coming from the international community, it remains a daunting task for TYC to prove their mettle. But among the Tibetan public endemic hope could be seen that something fruitful will come out.
