Special screenings of Tibetan themed films are to be shown in Edinburgh in advance of a visit by the Dalai Lama.

The exiled spiritual leader is scheduled to arrive in June for a series of Buddhist teaching events, a talk at the Usher Hall and meetings with MSPs in Edinburgh. The Nobel Peace Prize winner will also make a pilgrimage to Dunfermline Abbey as part of the four-day trip.

Highly-acclaimed Martin Scorsese film Kundun is to be screened at the Edinburgh Filmhouse on April 26 and at the Dunfermline Odeon on April 27.

A spokesman for the Scotland Tibet Association said today: “This film is a must-see for all those who are not only excited about the visit by the Dalai Lama but would appreciate the opportunity to connect more deeply to him and the Tibetan people before his arrival.”

The screenings are the first of a number of films being featured in a Tibetan Film Festival hosted by the Edinburgh Filmhouse from April 26 to May 26.
